This thread will remain the discussion thread. Feel free to express opinions, ask questions, and give feedback about the discord posts here. Just don't post the actual updates here; make sure they're on the update thread, so people can browse or subscribe to it easily, without wading through comments.

User: Thank you for the speedy response into the problem with people writing scripts to restock. The issue people were referring to in spells galore was happening on the legacy site. The cool down in kumos right now is killing the ability to do all quests. The daily limit is already a good limiting feature to stop people from mass buying up items.

It'll be addressed by teh shop being removed in favor of the kumos version

User: I was thinking it should be addressed by finding out if a script is being used and taking action against the abuser. The Kumos spells shop hasn't been restocking all items.

User: Yeah, is there any way you can check if someone is using a script? Like can you see if someone is online and buying from the shop 24/7, which is humanly impossible 😛

Keith: The goal is to remove the legacy site So my focus is going to be on improving the kumos site based on feedback, and I'm going to be making as few as possible changes to the legacy site.

Keith: I'm not planning to add any kind of detection to the legacy shop, it's very likely we will just be turning off legacy shops entirely very soon. i mean, quite literally the version of php that runs the legacy site is not going to be supported at some point soon

User: where is the best place to give kumos feedback? there are some specific things about legacy that i LOVE that aren’t on kumos yet and i’m not sure if they’re in the plans!

Keith: it’s honestly here. i look at the forums when i get a chance, but i am able to get feedback faster here. if you make a forum post somewhere with all of your feedback together and poke me when im here

User: Not the first time lack of staff communication has been brought up but I’ll bring it up every single time.

Keith: You can bring it up! I'm the only person who can program on the site, I haven't been paid to do it in 4 years because Subeta just doesn't make that much money. It's run by a skeleton crew of mostly people who have part or full time side jobs because Subeta doesn't make that much money.

If the communication in the last few years has made you want to cancel your subscription, unfortuantely it's not going to change. These kind of sites went out of fashion a long time ago (as the VCs who poured millions into the Neopets revamp have seen) - we're seeing most sites the age of Subeta shut down (if they didn't 15 years ago). It's honestly a miracle that it still exists. If you aren't getting value of your subscription, it really wont' hurt my feelings if you cancel!

Keith: The cash shop is entirely in the process of being moved over to Kumos including the item shop (which you could find if you were crafting with searching URLs!) and the subscriptions. Once they're all moved over together I planne to post about it ❤️ There is meant to be a little box at the top of the site that alerts people whent eh site changed, but that hasn't worked since I pushed it out :/ If we bring on people to do things like communication, or take messages from here back to the forums, I get accused of abusing people for free labor on the flip side! i would love to have a little group of volunteers who could ensure that items get moved around correctly, that forums get responded to, etc

Keith: (that’s to say pls keep giving feedback- and i will keep getting to it! except things like the site being down take priority, and my time is really limited!)

User: Are kumos quests supposed to only be giving 7 csc for completing them? :hm: people on the forums are saying they’re now getting 7 csc instead of 20.

Keith: Yup, they’ve been reduced. 20 per day was just too much, and i said in their launch post they could be pushed down

User: Why did the fundraiser idea never come to be?

Keith: Honestly, because then I have to do something with the funds that are raised, like hire a team, bring on programmers, etc. And I just don't have the time to run Subeta full time, picking up steam and trying to run it like a startup again, I've got a job! I don't have the time to put together a fundraising package, make a bunch of promises that are hopefully attainable, do the work required that comes before something like a kickstarter (a TON of work) while running the site, moving features over to a platform that will hopefully run for another 10 years without a ton of intervention Unfortunately everything requires an investment in time, and that's the thing we've got a lot less of today than we did when I was a teenager

It's very annoying to have like, responsibilities and a mortgage and people who rely on me 😛[/spoiler]

Thank you ! I have noticed you have relayed a good number of posts in the past, thank you for that! As people who know my collection item guide can attest, I can be gone for like 12+ month stretches, and I am not really a discord user, so I don't want to give anyone hope I'll be keeping this up to date. :P

I'm glad to see these posts (bc I really dislike Discord, and the only server I'm in is my bf's, and I'm on the verge of even leaving that one ^^; ), although what they say has left me really depressed about the future of Subeta. I'd just started investing a lot more time and money into my pets and battling and stuff (like a couple weeks ago, I signed up for a subscription for the first time in literal years)... but after reading this thread, I feel like there's a good chance I'm just wasting my time and money because the site isn't going to be around much longer.

Keith seems pretty apathetic/ambivalent and maybe a little passive-aggressive about it (yes I too find it annoying to have adult responsibilities), and I'm afraid one day he's going to lose interest even in Kumos, and just shut the whole thing down. I feel like I should quit putting much effort (and rl money) into my account, and try to reduce my emotional attachment to the site because one day it'll be gone.

....I also should go back to sleep because it's 4-something am here, and I shouldn't have checked the forums in the middle of the night 🤪

not everyone uses discord man, this is a way that the general userbase can get updates from keith about the future of the site they're playing on if they dont have discord. its a good idea, and it's the right thing to do. let me know if you need me to explain more common sense things to you in the future!

Thank you guys for this! I cannot follow along the official discord chat too often cause I just don’t have time so being able to see these updates from Keith is huge.

Honestly I’d try not to get too disheartened. If Keith wanted he could’ve just shut down subeta already. While I don’t always agree with his choices, he’s at least still keeping it running for all of us.

And really if you’re enjoying it? That’s what really matters right? We’re all here because we enjoy playing. Stuff may not be perfect or as busy as it used to be but it’s still here and we still have a decent community.

This. I'm not in the Subeta Discord and I don't plan on ever joining it because I am not a Discord server fan. I appreciate this thread a lot.

This post is to share and relay significant and important PUBLIC posts made on discord by keith himself, to the rest of subeta who i feel very much deserves to be kept in the know. It is not out of spite, or malice. These are public posts made by keith himself, word for word - context will be provided if necessary. I feel that anything that keith posts on the public discord has a right to be shared publicly with the rest of the site.

Many people choose not to engage in discord, for a multitude of reasons. Some are not very social and feel no need to be a part of a primarily social platform. Others are older players who may not have the time and/or energy to learn how to use a new platform. It is not a requirement to join discord upon signing up for subeta in order to know what is going on around the site. It is an option. Even if you decide, for whatever reason, not to take that option, you still do not deserve to be left in the dark regarding significant site info made by the creator of the site.

This is why i feel that this post is beneficial and important, for many users of the site.

Let me be clear that I am not against the idea of posting Discord updates on a thread. However, the context of those Discord conversations need to be actual updates involving legacy or Kumos, such as a change being pushed to quests, fishing etc.

Posting doom and gloom by Keith about how he doesn't have time for the site is NOT productive or meaningful to post.

He has posted very similar things in the past, on the site itself. Many times, from what i remember. I don’t see why this is new tbh, and honestly don’t see why it would piss him off 😅 it’s his own words, not ours. it’s a bit redundant to post it again, i suppose, but he posted it publicly on discord. Therefore he wants it to be known. I feel the status of the site should be allowed to be shared. But to each his own! If keith feels otherwise, he is free to remove the posts. But it’s not meant to be harmful. Just making public information posted on a public platform available for people who don’t, for whatever reason, choose to use said platform.

Just my $0.02 I do think keeping a bridge between discord updates and official site updates can be helpful, especially for folks like me who get froggy by lack of communication. I treat Subeta as a part of my daily life and I think it's easy to lose sight of that. I expect it to run like an app. But this ain't that.

I think what helped my frustrations a lot was hearing that this is a hobby project, not a corporation focused on profits, which I feel is very special and worth guarding. I think If we can adopt that mindset moving forward as a community, we could (keep) building something really special. There will be bugs. There will be lags. There will be random updates and revamps

Because it isn't an app with an extensive marketing team, customer service reps, or paid coders. It's a niche on the internet that is going to change and evolve as the internet does. It's going to suck that some aspects we really like are going to go away/not be updated, but you can't please everyone and there's so many facets of the site (games. pet battling, baking, alchemy, interactive holidays, Custom Wearables, achievements, collections, etc.) that they can't all possibly be updated by a few people who have jobs outside of this. I'm not sure how to meaningfully disseminate any information on large scale due to the updates being sporadic and worked on at Keith's discretion, but I do think this is a good first step in keeping the community together and not so fragmented.

Maybe we can shift focus from things that are broken to helping each other out when it breaks and trying to take a breathe and remember this isn't a utopia where everything should work right the first time. it's a niche pet game site that is a constant work in progress and we can all be part of it

sorry if this seems contradictory to my pop off posts. I think I'm taking out my frustration in US politics out on this platform in a weird way to cling to the way things used to be (or in my mind should be) re: seeking constant communication from authority to ease my anxiety on things moving in the background that I don't know about until it's too late and everything I love is in jeopardy.

I am on the same page as . I am confused why this is controversial, because Keith has explicitly stated he cannot/will not comment more on the site due to time, on discord and now on here. My one singular goal making this thread is to have a place to put answers to things Keith only answers on discord. I can increase the context and post other usernames too? Add more conversation before and after? Tell me and I'll re-do the screenshots. If you also want fishing game updates between all this I'll add those too... I just don't see how any of the current screenshots are a problem.

I have had the understanding it's a one man show for years. We understand where you're coming from, Keith. We're also all adults with busy lives and understand it's really amazing that Subeta exists at all. Please also understand where we're coming from, which is radio silence. I am posting discord updates here because you've made it clear it won't be posted by you or anyone else. You're the only source of information and the only place you put it is discord. If that's a bad platform for it is it preferable we site users hear nothing? Again, this thread is to post comments about Subeta that Keith posts on the public discord. If you went on the discord and searched Keith's username you'd be getting this, right? Plus random comments in the general chat, plus minor "taking the site down for a minute to fix a bug". I can post all of that too if that's better. Seriously, tell me a better format and I'll do it. But I don't think Keith casually chatting about deleting legacy shops and how to best communicate is irrelevant because us users who are using the site are getting literal radio silence on these topics. (Maybe users who don't get why this thread exists don't spend much time chatting onsite and are already getting all of Keith's comments on discord?) Is it less controversial to see that on discord somehow? I don't think so, because there was not a conversation about them, just offhand comments from Keith and then the conversation moves forward because that's how discord works.

And I don't see how the naysayers on this thread are helping with the communication issue rather than just stoking drama. Keith added his context post, I can add that to the very top of the thread if that helps. But there have also been 0 suggestions to improve the communication beyond making a thread like this (INCLUDING from Keith himself)... I'd appreciate not getting further riled up as the communication is already an extremely frustrating topic for many of us who really like playing the site and are feeling out of the loop.

Frankly I'm tempted to remake the thread because I was imagining a back and forth between a few people able to add screenshots and transcripts, so it's actually useful to browse and ctrl+F for certain subjects... Wouldn't a nested forum be so amazing for this kind of thread? Discuss each update in a nested, collapsable post, all hidden by default so you can browse without getting cluttered by the extra talk (another problem with keeping up with discord, actually.... Ah, a creature can dream.)

I think we need a thread like you've described/intended this to be where screenshots are uploaded to keep communication even btwn discord and subeta. Maybe an FAQ section could be added and updated regarding the specific ongoing questions people have that Keith has already touched on, such as kumos questing/legacy/kumos shops etc.

Faune on 2/14/2025: Is it possible to have anything site update-y be reposted as a comment under its own channel? I feel like there's a good amount of info being casually dropped sometimes that is missed by folks not using discord or by there being too much chat to review. Love that the discord is active! But if we're not also getting the same updates on Subeta it would be nice to have a place here to easily check!

Galaxia on 9/19/2025: I will ask, but in general we prefer to have that information published on the site to encourage people to check the news. The idea is to have this server as a back-up to the site, not the primary source.

Like, @ Keith this is where we're coming from, okay? We're not saying "it would be great to get updates on site" based on nothing. Busy adult to busy adult, we're not here to guilt trip you. If posting only on discord works for you then fine, I'm glad you're talking about the site at all! At least let us share that info.

@ paeoniaceae That would definitely be an ideal! I don't mind remaking it I'm just nervous knowing I take frequent months-long breaks from Subeta these days. I want it to be a thread anyone who sees update content on discord can screenshot it + add to thread, without having to update the primary post, in case that user isn't always around.

I found this thread to be very helpful and informative, as I play daily, and YET I just found out today that there was a discord oopsie I think having a concise place for people to see quick updates about how the site is doing and where it is going is super useful.

I'm sorry I screwed things up by commenting on the content of the posts. I misunderstood the purpose of the thread. When you remake it, maybe it could go elsewhere than the Constructive Feedback forum, and maybe just for clarification, have a disclaimer in the first post that it's only for people in the Discord to crosspost information, not for discussion/opinions/feedback on the information?

Regardless, I apologize for derailing the thread and being negative. I feel like I was the cause of the "wtf" reaction and drama, so I'm just gonna deflate and stay out of it from now on.
